Bhutan Improved in ICT Development Index Country Ranking

Bhutan’s global rank for IDI has improved from 122 in 2015 to 117 in 2016 (Country rank) in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ICT Development Index (IDI) out of 175 countries. Korea is ranked number one and Niger in the 175th .However Bhutan is ranked 21 in the Asia and Pacific Region out of 34 countries. Bhutan is also ranked third in the cheapest mobile-broadband services in the region.Bhutan is also ranked in top 15 countries which have improved most of their IDI values during the past year.

ONE MILLION Google email address associated with Android device have been attacked by a new malware campaign called Gooligan – which continues to strike some 13,000 new Google accounts every day.

Android phone users can perform a self-check at Gooligan Checkpoint to find out if their devices are infected with Gooligan.

Invitation for proposals for 2016 EBC-K Project to facilitate ICT Application in the Asia-Pacific

DITT on behalf of Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) would like to invite Bhutanese Individuals/Agencies/Firms to submit proposals for the joint research projects to facilitate ICT application in the Asia-Pacific funded by the Extra Budgetary Contribution from the Republic of Korea (EBC-K).

The objective of this project is to facilitate development of ICT applications and its usage in APT member countries in order to increase efficiency and productivity, or to provide new economic values and benefits in the field of services or industries of the APT member countries.

Environmental and social management framework for Bhutan Regional Connectivity Project

The Digital Connectivity and Services Project is a component of the overall Regional Connectivity Project. The total cost of this component is 24.5 million USD and the implementing agency is Department of IT and Telecom (DITT), Ministry of Information and Communications (MOIC).

There are two interrelated subcomponents for the above:

Stakeholder Meeting on Implementation of ICT Clusters in Dzonkghags and Thromdes

A stakeholder meeting was held at MoIC conference hall on 19th August 2016 to kickstart the Pilot implementation of ICT Clusters in Mongar Dzongkhag and Gelephu Thromde. The meeting was chaired by Commissioner Karma Hamu of RCSC and attended by Directors from Dept. of Revenue & Customs, Dept. of IT & Telecom, and Chiefs from Dept. of Agriculture and Marketing Cooperatives, Dept. of Agriculture, Dept. of Public Health, Dept. of Trade, Dept. of Local Governance and Dept. of Immigration.

Telecom Division Head Promoted to Chief ICT Officer

Mr. Sonam Phuntsho, Dy. Chief ICT Officer of Telecom Division, Department of IT and Telecom has been promoted as the Chief ICT Officer through open competition and selection interview procedure conducted by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Department would like to extend the heartiest congratulations to Mr. Sonam Phuntsho on his new appointment and look forward to achieve greater heights of achievements. Best wishes and Trashi Delek.

Mobile Apps Development Training

Department of IT & Telecom in collaboration with Bhutan Innovation and Technology Centre (BITC) / Thimphu Tech Park (TTPL) will be conducting training on Mobile Application Development for capacity development and promoting innovation.
